Costa Rica is the fifth cleanest country in the world, according to a recent publication in the prestigious Forbes magazine, after an environmental study on 149 countries regarding air and water quality and natural vitality, among others, done by scientists from Colombia and Yale Universities.
The Environmental Performance Indicator (EPI) study corresponds to the year 2008.
According to Forbes, the Costa Rican economy is anchored by a robust ecotourism industry that has benefitted from governmental and private efforts made to protect the country’s biodiversity.
In addition, the publication highlighted that this index will continue to improve if it complies with its initiative to become the first carbon neutral, or C-neutral, nation by 2021.

Saturday - June 13 Balcony Birding into the Canopy at Finca Caballo Loco This lovely horse farm near El Rodeo and University for Peace sits above a river canyon allowing looks into the tops of towering trees in an old growth forest. For those who wish to relax and bird watch from the beautifully decorated, open-air balcony, you will be treated to a rare opportunity of looking down into the canopy. For those who want a little exercise as well as bird watching, our guide Patrick O'Donnell, will lead us on some hilly trails (that we can take at our leisure), through a wonderfully diverse terrain of open fields and forests, into territory we have yet to explore as the Birding Club of Costa Rica. We will have a short Annual Meeting following breakfast, after which anyone who would like to stay on to bird, hike or horseback ride is invited to do so. Bring friends. The cost: Annual BCCR dues: $10.00 single/$15.00 family (c6000/c9000) Early Birds: We will meet at 6:30am at the Gas station in Cuidad Colon on the corner where you have to turn right, Please respond to Lyn by June 8, 2009 if you plan to attend.
