Costa Rica's Expat Community---Social Whirls Abound
"Theme Parties, Fund raising Galas, Social Activities Abound in Escazu--Costa Rica's Beverly Hills"
One of the great charms of living in Costa Rica is the interesting and diverse social life that abounds here. Our friends in the states, can hardly believe it when we tell them, we take out the Tuxedo and Strapless Gown more in Tropical Costa Rica, than we ever did in Manhattan or Philadelphia.
In Costa Rica, there's Gourmet Clubs, Wine Clubs, Gala Benefits, Bridge Clubs, Hiking Clubs, Cooking Clubs, etc. etc... In fact, if you're not careful, the unending menu of social activities can easily exhaust the new transplant/retiree, who chooses Costa Rica for a more tranquil lifestyle. In 10 years here, I have served as President of the Newcomers Club and Fund raising Chair for Numerous Gala, including the Women's Club of Costa Rica and SASY (Stop Animal Suffering Yes!) Advice for those planning a move to Costa Rica: Giving Back to the country through involvement in community activities and ex-pat social groups like the Newcomers Club, ARCR and Women's Club is a great way to meet lasting friends here and quickly find out who's who? what's what? and how to get things done? Dorothy, you're not in Kansas anymore! and you just don't get in the car and take care of business. The new arrival to Costa Rica should quickly connect with those who know the ropes through the social community here to insure a smooth landing and avoid costly mistakes.
PS: A Note on the Social Whirl: The Expat Parties in Costa Rica are without a doubt the most fun I've attended anywhere in the world! Perhaps because of Costa Rica's lush year round tropical living (we don't cocoon in the dreary winter months) or the fact that people do have more time on their hands and not working 24-7; or maybe it's because when you choose to live in a foreign country, let's face it, you're just more "interesting". In deciding to move to Costa Rica, you know how to Go Wild! GO GREAT!TM and live every day as an Exciting Adventure.
